The area surrounding the hotel abounds with things to do whether it is in the Brecon Beacons National Park with its breathtaking beauty, its ruined castles and monasteries or in the nearby Cambrian Mountains.
Walking
The area is a haven for walkers with no shortage of walks, whether it's a challenging walk on Pen-y-Fan, the tallest mountain in Southern Britain, up to the top of Hay Bluff and along Offa's Dyke, a gentle stroll along the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal or around one of the many mountain lakes or picturesque villages, there is something to suit all. Thanks to our unique location, the hotel specialises in catering for large and small walking groups, organising packed lunches, evening group meals and, where required, guided walks with experienced mountain guides. Cycling
What better way to get around and see the spectacular scenery, there is no shortage of cycling and something to suit all levels - from strenuous mountains paths to the Taff Trail to a gentle ride along the canal towpath. Bikes for all ages and sizes can be hired from a nearby shop in Brecon. Ask at Reception for details.
Golfing
There are an array of Golf courses in the local vicinity, including the beautiful Cradoc's well-kept 18-hole mountain course and driving range, with its stunning scenery and views over Pen-y-Fan - voted Wales Golf Course of the Year. Fishing
Nestling in the magnificent Brecon Beacons National Park, Gludy Lake offers a unique, unforgettable fly fishing experience. Only a few minute's drive from Brecon, this accessible and tranquil lake is a world away from life's hustle and bustle. Gludy Lake welcomes individual fly fishermen, small groups, and responsible corporate groups of fly fishermen. Alternatively, spend time in the beautiful Welsh Hills fishing the many rivers and tributaries around Brecon for trout, salmon or grayling as well as several other species in the company of one of Wale's most experienced fly-fishermen, Kim Tribe. Whether you are a complete novice or a seasoned game fisherman, you will be guaranteed an excellent day's fishing with Kim. Riding
The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority has been awarded the BHS Access Award for the National Park most active in opening up equestrian routes. A perfect riding resort with spectacular scenery, wealth of wildlife and some of the best riding in Europe. There are thousands of acres of hills, moors and fields, criss-crossed by ancient tracks and lanes. Quad Biking
There is very little to match the excitement of powering your own four-wheel-drive quad-bike across the wild mountains and valleys of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. Clear and careful training is followed by a ride, putting the machines and their drivers to the test. Descend steep slopes into rocky river beds, cross frightening inclines, and climb over the bumpy remains of dry-stone walls, before returning swiftly across a grassy meadow. All surrounded by the most amazing scenery you can imagine!
Clay Pigeon Shooting
The Woodland Park Shooting Ground features probably one of the most comprehensive range of different types of clay-pigeon shooting in Wales and is recognised as one of the most beautiful shooting grounds in the UK. Whatever your preference, you'll find it here.
Game Shooting
Glanusk Estate has a renowned pheasant shoot and is now recognised as having one of the greatest pheasant drives of the country and challenging birds including partridge and wild duck flighting. A number of grouse days over dogs are available on the Black Mountains.
Falconry
The local falconers will happily train small groups in the art of falconry. There is something particularly satisfying about working in harmony with a bird of prey and this half or one-day course will ensure that you get to sample all sides of this interesting sport.
