The Lounge Bar ...
A delightful, Georgian room, with two cosy fireplaces, deep leather sofas, comfortable armchairs and a superb mountain views. Visitors may relax here from early morning with 'bean fresh' coffee or tea and homemade shortbread biscuits and Welsh cakes. The lunch menu of starters and light meals, and paninni selection is added to with dishes popular with locals and visitors alike. Afternoon teas with homemade cakes and a selection of 'casual eating' dishes are served throughout the afternoon. In our bar we aim to provide excellent and traditional pub food with a twist, local real ales and wines in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

In the bar area, an intimate and traditional coaching inn bar, Penderyn whisky, Breconshire and Rhymney Breweries and Gwaint-y-Draig ciders and perries are available as standard, with weekly guest ales such as Wye Valley, Marstons, etc. The bar achieved a score of over 90% from the British Institute of Innkeepers and holds the 'Cask Marque' for the standard of its ales and beers. The wine list has been carefully selected by our wine merchants Tanners of Shrewsbury to contain both old and new world favourites. Vintage ports, malt whiskeys, vintage cognacs, armagnacs and Champagne also feature on a separate menu.

For many months of the year visitors can enjoy a quiet drink in our riverside garden sitting next to the waterfall on the the River Honddu with the backdrop of historic Brecon Castle or else our south facing terrace with extensive views over Georgian Brecon town and up to Pen-y-Fan and the Brecon beacon mountains will enhance any outdoor eating and drinking experience.

A salute to our Suppliers:
At Brecon Castle we believe in procuring the finest quality ingredients in order to ensure that we can serve food which is a real experience. We also take great pride in sourcing virtually everything from Wale's finest larder: the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons of Mid-Wales. From traditional suppliers to entrepreneurial newcomers, Mid-Wales now offers an unrivalled selection of the finest speciality food and drink.
Mr. Morgan in Brecon sends us beef from his famous herd of Welsh Black cattle. The fine marbling of the meat ensures that it cooks to perfection. Our free-range poultry, venison and wild boar is sourced direct from farms in Crickhowell, Llandovery and Usk. The award-winning butcher, Mr. George of Talgarth, supplies most of our beef and lamb, which has a particular sweet taste thanks to the mountain meadow grasses. His animals are specially selected by him and all reared on farms within a 20-mile radius of the hotel. At his butchers shop and abbattoir in nearby Talgarth, our meat is humanely dispatched and the beef is hung for a minimum 28-days.
Our fresh water fish is supplied locally from the River Honddu in the Black Mountains and our sea-fish merchant runs his own trawler out of Pembrokeshire and his catches are delivered to our door ocean fresh.
The nearby Black Mountains Smokery supplies our smoked salmon, trout, duck, quail and cheeses.
Vegetables, salads, fruits and herbs are provided by Russell Jones & Son and marvellous chemical-free produce is also supplied from our own market garden in the Llanthony Valley.
Our ice-cream is supplied by Mr. Bromwel of the Rheld Dairy at Rheld Farm in Crickhowell using organic milk and including such famous flavours as The Crickhowell Crunch and Penderyn Whisky Ice Cream.
